Beyond Big Data Surveillance: Freedom & Fairness

I was invited to speak at the Beyond Big Data Surveillance conference organised by the The Surveillance Studies Centre at Queen's University. I was on the panel Complex Surveillance: Understood by Fewer ‘Insiders’ and ‘Outsiders’, discussing the challenges of data stewardship and how collaborative, practical solutions are the way forward in ensuring that surveillance systems can be challenged.

Janis Wong is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at The Alan Turing Institute researching on AI, ethics, and public policy as part of the Data Justice and Global Ethical Futures programme. Currently, she is finishing up her interdisciplinary PhD in Computer Science at the Centre for Research into Information, Surveillance and Privacy (CRISP), University of St Andrews.
